20 people locked in a stifling room listening to a guru oozing about how they're all just going to love signing up to Twitter, starting their blog or collaborating on a wiki.

Yeah, right. Inspiring stuff this isn't. How about this instead:

NoTosh workshops cater for groups of four to 30 people. We send out a pre-workshop questionnaire to work out how to shape a morning, afternoon or day around their existing skills and interests, making sure there are gaps for everyone to head off and have a play or a think, and time to come back and ask all those questions. We design workshops that will make stuff happen.

We start engaging participants two weeks beforehand, if we know who's coming, then a day (or more) of challenging, fun work, followed up with two weeks of assisted email, Skype or telephone support, if that's what's required.

Thinking Out Of The (X)Box: Digital Storytelling

This is the original Thinking Out Of The (X)Box seminar, developed since 2006 and continuing to sell out at Building Learning Communities 2008 in Boston. It summarises the classroom-based experiments and practice of teachers from all over the world, most often instigated after one of our previous workshops, showcasing how video games have been used to provide both an opportunity to expand digital storytelling. This workshops grounds the future practice and ideas of attendees in the latest research review.

Thinking Out Of The (X)Box: Roleplay & Linking the Curriculum

Video games' potential for bringing together different elements of the school curriculum is second to none. This second Thinking Out Of The (X)Box seminar, developed in 2009, shows how using games as the basis of roleplay expands students' horizons in language arts and foreign languages, geography, mathematics, enterprise and business education, and web publishing. Taking current research as the starting point, the workshop offers attendees the chance to design their own unit of work around a video game of their choice. There are examples provided from those who have previously attended similar workshops with Ewan McIntosh.
